A store combining tea and anime is coming to Yreka.

The Anime Teahouse, the first of its kind in north Siskiyou County, will be at 212 Butte St. across the street from the Post Office.

Owner Andrea Weary expects the new business to be open sometime in January. She has been selling her teas and wares for more than a year at different craft fairs and events in Siskiyou County, such as the Siskiyou Golden Fair in August. This new endeavor combines her passion for amine, manga and tea.

After all, she said, her perfect day would involve reading a manga while enjoying a cup of one of her signature tea blends.

“I’m excited to be offering something different to the community,” she said,

Weary said the store will feature teas and offer tea accessories and anime merchandise for sale, including pots, infusers, and other items.

She said she has worked more than two years to make the store a reality. Weary said she got positive responses when she took part in craft fairs and the Siskiyou Golden Fair, with many people telling her how excited they are to have the store coming to town.

Weary said she has been interested in anime since she was a child. She would run home each day to watch the popular Japanese animated show "Robotech."

She went on to get a degree in Chinese language from the University of California, Berkeley and a master's in teaching from San Francisco State University. She is a teacher of the visually impaired for the Siskiyou County Office of Education

There are several teas the store is offering. Below are a few of the choices, with descriptions by Weary:

Weary has a supplier from Canada who comes up with different blends, and an illustrator from Indonesia does the anime-inspired drawings for the teas.

Weary hopes to eventually offer boba tea at the store. She'd like to have a place where young people can sit and sip their teas and maybe enjoy animes. For now, the business will focus on selling teas to consume or give as gifts .

Weary said before the store opens, shoppers interested in buying tea can call or email her or direct-message her on Facebook. Updates on the business can be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/AnimeTeahouseLLC.
